GEOCACHING

Geocaching is a multisport activity which was primarily designed as hiking proposal (trekking). Due to its evolution, it may also include: fitwalking, Nordic walking, cycling, climbing, tree climbing, sailing, snorkelling or diving.

The common thread is a treasure hunt that, through the use of satellite technology, pushes the participants, called “geocachers”, to travel around the world in search of “geocaches”, georeferenced containers of various shapes and sizes.

The term comes from “geo” to indicate the earth and “cache”, a term used to indicate hidden ammunition or, in a more modern context, the data stored in computer memory.

Not all caches are “equal”. To each one is given a ground level and one of difficulty, from 1 to 5, to indicate what can be impervious and risky and demanding search.

The official website of geocaching is www.geocaching.com, designed and managed by Groundspeak Inc., Seattle, U.S.A.

Who are the geocachers

The geocachers are united by the spirit of exploration and the joy of discovery. They live in almost every nation on Earth. They are families with children, grandparents, nerds, photographers, hikers; anyone can be a geocacher.
Geocaching has widespread appeal among many people because it is limted only by the place and everyone’s own imagination.

Hiding a cache

The purpose of hiding a cache is to ensure that other geocachers seek it and it is therefore necessary a high quality. For this reason it requires in-depth knowledge of the official rules, experience, dedication, planning, extensive testing, promotion, constant monitoring and, of course, a detailed and scheduled maintenance.
